WHAT TO EXPECT
This Careers In Depth event will bring together a panel of experienced professionals and organizations whose careers and missions make an impact in international development.
You will gain insight into what skills are needed to pursue a career in and how to break into this field as they share their own stories.
Following the panel, you will also enjoy breakout discussions with panelists and 1:1 sessions with professional development experts who will help guide your impact career in that direction.
This event is not a career fair, but rather an opportunity to find out more about the space, the work the companies are doing, how they build their teams and develop strategy and seeing if this is the right career fit for you.

SPEAKERS
BE SOCIAL CHANGE, Marcos Salazar
Social Entrepreneur + Life Coach
Marcos is a social entrepreneur, career + life coach, consultant, speaker, and community builder. He works with professionals, entrepreneurs, and creatives to help them pursue work they are passionate about, become financially successful, and create lives that make the world a better place. He does this through 1-on-1 coaching, nonprofit and businesses consulting, and on a larger scale as Co-founder + Executive Director of Be Social Change where he’s built the largest social impact community and professional development hub in New York City.
For most of his career Marcos has led a double life. By day he’s been a nonprofit innovator as a Research Officer for the American Psychological Association examining education and workforce trends, as a Tech Strategist and Leadership Researcher for Girl Scouts of the USA integrating large-scale data management systems and leading a team of Girl Scout CEOs to develop a technology and social media strategy for the Girl Scout Movement, as well as VP of Programs at the White House Project designing leadership development programs to increase the number of women elected into office and executive positions within the private sector. By night Marcos tapped into his entrepreneurial spirit by launching two clothing companies, publishing two books (he is currently working on his third), helping people develop healther lifestyles as a personal trainer and spinning instructor, as well as leverging his political muscle to become an elected official in Brooklyn.

ACUMEN, Tomoko Matsukawa
Senior Innovation Associate
“+Acumen Chapters & Courses provide means for leadership development and community engagement for everyone around the world. Seeing those people influencing the lives of others has been truly inspirational.”
Tomoko joined Acumen in 2014 as a member of the +Acumen team. Tomoko was formerly a leader of the Tokyo +Acumen chapter, and she is now developing and expanding +Acumen courses and strengthening the network of volunteer chapters around the world.
Prior to joining Acumen, Tomoko worked on business development with Quipper, an education technology startup. Earlier in her career, Tomoko worked with GLOBIS, providing customized leadership development programs for Japanese corporations, and at Goldman Sachs Japan in equity research and institutional sales.
Tomoko holds a Master of Education degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Design and Environmental Analysis from Cornell University.

FIRST ACCESS, Rohit Acharya
Chief Data Scientist
Rohit is the Chief Data Scientist at First Access, which combines financial and mobile data to reliably predict credit risk for borrowers in informal markets and make financial products more affordable. His group builds and implements credit models, develops data-driven insights about banking operations, and advises financial institutions on both business strategy and product development. Before joining First Access, Rohit worked at Bridgewater Associates, a leading hedge fund, and was responsible for portfolio assessment, trade oversight and optimization, risk management, and the creation of new investment logic. Prior to Bridgewater, he worked as a consultant at Oliver Wyman specializing in the financial sector advising retail banks and insurance companies on loan origination and underwriting, mortgage delinquency, and new financial product development.
As a researcher, Rohit has applied analytical rigor to a spectrum of topics inside and outside the financial world. His research includes developing models articulating the relationship of fiscal-monetary policy and social welfare and uncovering relationships between education and dowry payments in rural India. Having lived extensively abroad, Rohit brings his passion for analytical solutions to the emerging markets where data-driven solutions are sorely needed. He also founded the Harvard Sports Analysis Collective to improve sports strategies using statistical and mathematical techniques; the group has partnered with several professional sports organizations in the United States and their research has received acclaim from publications such as ESPN, the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Times.
Rohit holds a BA with honors in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Harvard University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is Co-Chair of the Young Professionals board of City Lore, which is a non-profit based here in NYC.

IDEALIST, Victoria Crispo
Careers Program Coordinator
Victoria as a 10+ year background in higher ed career counseling, resume writing, and career coaching. In working with thousands of job seekers and career changes, she has become known for using an approach that is nurturing and intuitive yet practical and driven to high achievement.
She became acquainted with Idealist, where she now works, in 2000 and has been using it ever since to help job seekers find meaningful career opportunities with purpose. When she saw the Careers Program Coordinator job posted on the site, she knew she had to apply. In addition to writing for theCareers hub, she develops career-related email courses, as well as in-person workshops and events. She fervently seeks the latest resources and insights for today’s job seeker. Her great loves are cooking (preferably without a recipe, otherwise she doctors it up), dancing, live cultural performances, identifying the tasting notes in a good cup of coffee, and anything else that sparks the senses and allows her to experience all the beauty, dynamism, and intrigue that vivaciously living in a remarkable world offers.

SUSTAINABLE HEALTH ENTERPRISES (SHE), Connie Lewin
Director, Strategic Partnerships and Marketing, Global
Connie is the Strategic Partnerships and Marketing Director, Global for Sustainable Health Enterprises, or SHE. SHE is a social venture that invests in people and ideas that are typically overlooked (and often taboo) as vehicles of socio-economic change. Their first initiative, SHE28, addresses girls' and women's lack of access to affordable menstrual pads resulting in significant costs to their reproductive health, educational achievements, work productivity, and dignity.
Connie leads consumer marketing, business development and global communications at SHE. Prior to joining SHE, Connie was at L’Occitane USA, where she executed on e-commerce and digital strategy for the U.S. market entrance of the Melvita brand, and managed all marketing operations for fragrance and limited edition product launches for L’Occitane.
Connie earned her MBA in 2010 from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester. She graduated from Princeton University in 2005 with a B.A. in Politics.
