Account Manager

Social Strategy Associates LLC

About the Firm

Social Strategy Associates LLC is an inspired consultancy, passionate about the power of philanthropy and business to positively impact our world's most pressing social and environmental issues. We work with leading foundations, corporations, and nonprofits to design, implement, and manage strategic philanthropy and social responsibility programs. As a distributed team with roots in New York City, we serve clients across the country.

Our firm was founded in 2014 and has achieved year-over-year organic growth through consistently high-quality client work and exceptional relationship management. We punch above our weight by rolling up our sleeves and getting things done.

Our service offerings include: philanthropic prize, competition, and fellowship design and management; project management of co-funded initiatives and pooled funds; emergency fund coordination; strategic planning; evaluation; partnership development; grants management; signature program design; donor trip design and execution; and more. Current client projects focus on a diverse array of issue areas, including social innovation, early childhood development, equitable economic recovery, and labor and worker rights.

Across all our work, we prioritize equity and diversity of backgrounds, thought, and experiences. We strive to support organizations that work not just for but with impacted communities and center their voices and leadership.

About this Role

We are excited to expand our small but mighty team by bringing on a new full-time teammate. The Account Manager will work alongside the project lead, managing key strategic and operational work streams for client accounts. This person should have excellent project management skills and an innate ability to listen to a client, discern what they need and fulfill that need. The Account Manager will support hiring and management of junior associates across client accounts from reviewing deliverables to delegating work. The ideal candidate will be able to seamlessly toggle between 30,000-foot strategy and in-the-weeds details, and between accounts.

The Account Manager should be passionate about work that centers underserved and overlooked communities and have experience in bringing a justice lens to the work. We pride ourselves on having a collaborative and all-hands-on-deck work culture – that is, from developing high-level strategy to printing out nametags the morning of a public event, all team members work together to get the job done.

The position was previously based out of a beautiful client office in the Flatiron neighborhood of New York City, however over these last two years  our team has transitioned to primarily remote work. Core U.S.-based team members are now located in New York City and Palm Springs, CA. Given our current comfort with remote work, we are excited to hear from qualified applicants across the country with willingness to travel. Despite our remote structure, we value the opportunity to come together to co-work on location.

Responsibilities include:

  • Driving consulting engagements, with guidance from the firm’s principals, ensuring delighted clients.
  • Taking responsibility for all facets of project management, such as preparing for and leading internal and external meetings, developing project strategy, delegating tasks to junior team members, managing up and down, keeping other vendors on task, “owning” budgets and timelines, and more.
  • Envisioning, authoring, reviewing and revising client deliverables (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, research reports, Excel workbooks) on one’s own or in conjunction with a team.
  • Building the capacity of a small firm, from editing proposals to supporting the hiring, managing and training of junior talent.

A qualified applicant will:

  • Have five to seven years of experience in management consulting or account/program management, including three years as a project manager or account lead.
  • Possess advanced skills in PowerPoint, Excel, and Word; knowledge of Google Workspace, Foundant, SurveyMonkey, Doodle, WordPress and Constant Contact is also desirable.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as possess outstanding interpersonal skills. To be clear, strong writing skills are absolutely critical.
  • Demonstrate superior analytical and organizational skills, including attention to detail and a commitment to rigor.
  • Demonstrate strong critical thinking skills in answering research questions using existing frameworks or by creating new ones.
  • Be a smart generalist and self starter possessing high levels of independence and intrinsic motivation.
  • Be a positive individual who maintains composure under pressure and when receiving direct feedback from colleagues and clients.
  • Be comfortable working in a constantly evolving small business environment.
  • Have a strong academic background.
  • Be entrepreneurial.
  • Have a willingness to travel; travel requirements vary by client.
  • Have experience working in, or substantial interest in, the social impact space. Current SSA accounts focus on a diverse range of social impact topics: social innovation, early childhood development, immigration and economic opportunity, and workers’ rights.

The starting salary range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Numerous benefits are provided, including a $450 per month health expense reimbursement through a QSEHRA plan, a company-issued laptop, opportunities for in-person onboarding and client travel, immediate exposure to philanthropic and nonprofit leaders, and bespoke professional development opportunities.
