Director, ESG Advisory


Georgeson is looking to grow our Proxy Advisory team with the addition of a Director, ESG Advisory.

Georgeson is the world’s foremost provider of strategic shareholder consulting services. Our mission is to analyze and mitigate the risk associated with corporate actions (including AGMs, EGMs, M&A and activist situations). Our core proxy solicitation expertise is enhanced with and complemented by our strategic consulting services. Georgeson was originally founded in 1935 by Lloyd Georgeson.

A role you will love

As Director, ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) Advisory, the successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of research, operational and analytical tasks to support Georgeson’s ESG advisory services.  We work with companies across market caps and industries on a variety of ESG mandates.  You will work directly with high-level client contacts externally as well as internally to identify and evaluate ESG issues for clients, including producing research content and client deliverables, and supporting clients’ engagements with institutional investors. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for environmental, social and/or corporate governance matters to develop and contribute to a leading ESG advisory practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support team members with data collection and analysis from a range of sources, including public disclosures, third party data sources and proprietary internal systems. 
  • Act as a project manager to coordinate all aspects of the client engagement and manage client delivery timeline.  
  • Assist with client ESG report development, including collecting, synthesizing and summarizing content for inclusion in reports, content development, editing and maintaining back up data files
  • Demonstrate issue-specific expertise to act as a resource internally and externally on ESG matters
  • Together with other team members, help lead stakeholder engagement interviews to source new or underreported ESG data and information
  • Identify emerging ESG topics and best practices. 
  • Together with the ESG advisory team, develop product and services offerings
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications colleagues to create user-friendly, visually appealing presentations, reports, articles, dashboards and infographics.


What will you bring to the role?  

Required key skills

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience; prior sustainability/ESG reporting experience, and/or legal, consulting, or financial experience with a demonstrated interest in ESG issues.
  • Advanced knowledge of ESG matters impacting public companies across sectors and market caps, gained through a combination prior consulting experience, in-house experience or other ESG ecosystem experience, such as NGO experience or ESG service provider experience. 
  • Detailed research capabilities to identify model disclosures and strong writing skills. Significant expertise compiling and working with large amounts of information that underpin client deliverables.
  • Familiarity with investor-favored standards and frameworks (including SASB/ISSB and TCFD) as well as industry-specific frameworks and prominent surveys, such as CDP and Ecovadis.
  • Possess a combination of prior legal, investment stewardship or financial analyst experience in addition to ESG/sustainability experience.
  • Ability to synthesize and process a large volume of information on a range of ESG issues
  • comfortable presenting to and working with C-suite, executive management and board level client contacts.
  • Attention to detail, demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office Applications, in particular PowerPoint and Excel
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Comfortable working with others and collaborating with team members


  • Knowledge of ESG concepts and reporting frameworks, particularly SASB and TCFD
  • Familiarity with research systems such as Bloomberg, FactSet, etc.,
