Sunshine Enterprises (“SE”) exists to empower local entrepreneurs in disinvested neighborhoods to grow their businesses and transform their communities. The vision of the organization is to create neighborhood-based business hubs that catalyze free enterprise, create new jobs, and grow vibrant small businesses in Chicago's diverse communities.
Founded in 2012 by Joel Hamernick to combat poverty through business growth in Chicago’s most disinvested neighborhoods, SE was born out of the larger history of Sunshine Gospel Ministries. In 2014, SE teamed up with Rising Tide Capital (RTC) becoming the first licensed affiliate of RTC. RTC is a New Jersey based non-profit organization whose mission is to transform lives and communities through entrepreneurship. SE recognizes entrepreneurship as a critical asset to alleviate the financial burden and create a pathway to long-term wealth. SE fosters economically viable communities through training, coaching and connecting high potential entrepreneurs with networks and resources to grow their business and build their community. Since 2012, SE has created a community of over 1000 entrepreneurs.
The organization, which has grown in just under a decade from 3 full time staff to 40+ employees and a budget of $1.5M, is seeking a visionary leader to expand on the success established by the Founder. The Executive Director (“ED”), reporting to the Board of Directors, is responsible for the strategic processes of the organization, delivery and maintenance of the agency’s programs, revenue growth, private philanthropy and all components that support program delivery and overall organizational well-being.
The ideal candidate is an inspiring, mission driven leader with a proven track record in scaling organizations, a deep knowledge of Chicago, its diverse neighborhoods and the inner workings of the local nonprofit sector. The ED will have a commitment to, and passion for, the mission – creating economically viable communities through coaching and connecting high potential entrepreneurs. Working with the existing vision, the ED will identify opportunities to continue to innovate programs and strategic partnerships to further the organization’s impact. Demonstrated success building a base of support and securing major gifts from new and existing individual donors, foundations, corporations, and possibly public sources, is key. Experience in a senior leadership role reporting directly to or working closely with a Board of Directors is desired. Demonstrated experience scaling an outcomes-based organization is needed.
An undergraduate degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent work experience, is required, graduate degree such as MBA, preferred. Minimum of ten years of senior level management experience is sought.
