World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world's leading conservation organizations, seeks a Senior Program Officer, US Corporate Climate Engagement, to join our dynamic and influential team based in Washington, DC office. With guidance and support from the Deputy Director, Corporate Climate Engagement, the Sr. Program Officer supports key WWF initiatives, including the new Climate Business Network and the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), which engage businesses and their supply chains to raise climate ambition. Our work includes helping companies to set and implement SBTs (including Net Zero), navigate the complexities of climate-related claims, explore opportunities to go beyond these targets and invest in nature-based solutions, and to support ambitious climate-related policy.
Corporate Climate Target Setting and Implementation Support: Engages and supports WWF corporate climate partners on accounting for value chain greenhouse gas emissions, setting Science-Based Targets and net-zero commitments, strategies for emission reductions, and engaging and mobilizing suppliers. Stays up to date on the landscape of corporate climate methodologies and commitment/implementation platforms.
Corporate Relationship Management: Manages corporate relationships, develops new partner proposals, annual workplans and routine partner communications, collaborates with WWF global network of climate & business colleagues, develops and plans for Climate Business Network monthly calls, periodic webinars, and in-person topical meetings and the annual conference.
Strategy Development and Implementation: Contributes to developing and implementing WWF-US's corporate climate engagement strategy.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborates with WWF Private Sector Engagement team, other program goal teams and the WWF global network to advance corporate climate partnerships and ambition.
Events: Represents WWF at climate and business relevant events and meetings.
Staff Management: Recruits and manages interns and junior staff as required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Position requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 6 years of program or other professional experience. An advanced degree may substitute for 2 years of experience.
Expertise in GHG Protocol, including the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard, and understanding of Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) criteria and policies required.
Background in consulting or other direct engagement with corporate sustainability teams is a plus.
Thorough knowledge of corporate climate mitigation strategies and experience with accounting for and reporting corporate value chain emissions (i.e. greenhouse gas footprinting) and supplier sustainability programs are preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in corporate climate target setting and business-NGO collaboration.
Substantial knowledge of the corporate sustainability landscape as well as climate-related methodologies and platforms relevant to corporate climate ambition and implementation is preferred.
Understanding of and experience with carbon and renewable energy markets is a plus.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and project management skills are preferred.
Outstanding oral and written communication skills are preferred.
Ability to operate with independence, effectively plan and prioritize responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment is preferred.
Ability to work effectively as a team member with a wide range of individuals and cultures is preferred.
Some domestic travel may be required (10%).
