Net Impact AUB Graduate chapter in collaboration with Business Student Society at the American University of Beirut developed a workshop about Social Entrepreneurship - Health and Environment moderated by Teresa Chahine.

Dr. Teresa Chahine is a research associate at Center for the Health and Global Environment at Harvard school of Public Health focusing on sustainable development in the Gulf Region of the Middle East (http://gulfurbanism.com). She divides her time between Boston and Beirut, where she advises the region’s first venture philanthropy organization, which supports social entrepreneurs and grassroots organizations working to improve the lives of under-served populations through education and economic empowerment (www.alfanar.org).

Dr. Chahine’s focus is on mobilizing resources, knowledge, and human capital across sectors to reduce disparities and expand economies through sustainable development. Her research has covered community-based education models, community-based environmental risk assessment, and community-based reproductive health. She teaches social entrepreneurship in health and the environment at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and at Harvard University Extension School. Recent publications have centered on social entrepreneurship in the Arab countries, and financial tools to support social innovation.

Past roles have included research consultancies at the USEPA-NERL communities program, United Nations Populations Fund and the Ministry of Social Affairs in Lebanon. Dr. Chahine helped launch the Systems Reform Group, a global network of experts serving transitional nations to strengthen their health and education systems. She received her Doctor of Science in Environmental Health Risk Assessment from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, Master of Science in prenatal genetics and fetal medicine from the University College London, and Bachelor of Science in Biology from the American University of Beirut.
