The daylong hackathon, or intensive computer programming experience, for Baltimore City Public Schools students event was sponsored by IBM and organized in cooperation with Carey Net Impact. Over 40 students from Western High School and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute spent the day at Carey to develop software applications using IBM’s Bluemix platform. Johns Hopkins students — representing the Carey Business School, the Whiting School of Engineering, and the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, as well as Carey’s joint Design Leadership program with the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) — served as mentors to the high school students throughout the event. Students tweeted their experiences throughout the day, and their posts can be found at https://storify.com/CareyAdmissions/hackcarey or by searching for #hackcarey on Twitter.
