About us

The CAUSE student organization aims to provide every person with the inspiration, the skills, the experiences, and the networks needed to make a social impact through innovation and entrepreneurial pursuits.

CAUSE stands for Collegiate Association of Unreasonable Social Entrepreneurs. Why "Unreasonable?" Check out this George Bernard Shaw quote we grabbed it from: "The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."

Annual Social Impact Summit
We developed the Social Impact Summit to educate about social entrepreneurship and its enormous impact, inspire attendees to become changemakers and to facilitate networking among those interested in the social space.

CAUSE in conjunction with Pizza Pros has brought to life a student idea that a really good pizza can change lives. After a series of cold calls, the efforts of the CAUSE students has resulted in a long-standing relationship with the owner of Pizza Pros restaurant in DeKalb, who opens up early every week so CAUSE students can use his facilities to bake 20 homemade pizzas and deliver and sell them to their NIU customer base (selling them completely out each time, in fact). The proceeds from the sales are then donated to different causes.

Pitch With A CAUSE
Pitch With a CAUSE is a competition for anyone who has an idea for a business that makes a positive social or environmental impact. The competition is open to anyone who's interested in making a submission: high schoolers, undergrads, grad students, non-students, retirees, kindergarteners, etc. Everyone is welcome.
