The Joseph Initiative, Ltd. (JI) is an American-owned grain trading company based in Western Uganda with a social mission to empower smallholder farmers by providing access to agricultural services, financial assistance and fair market conditions. The JI leverages a network infrastructure of rural aggregation centers and centralized processing facilities to achieve supply chain efficiencies and reduce staggering post-harvest losses. At this Lunch n’ Learn event, current first year Kyle Burr and JI Managing Partner Benjamin Prinz (via Skype) will discuss the company's innovative business model, its journey from a non-profit pig farm to commercial maize processor, and the challenges and opportunities for social enterprises in developing countries. Summer internship and full-time job openings will also be addressed.
