We were originally supposed to have a speaker from the Inside Out Program join us, but they did not show up. Instead we watched an eye opening documentary called "Living on One Dollar" which was about 4 American boys who went down to Guatemala for a summer to live like the poorest of the poor and see if they could survive. The point of the documentary was to look at the value of a dollar and how much it really means to some people. The documentary also highlighted some incredible business practices used by those living their to make their lives and the lives of the people around them better. One highlight was the profit sharing program which had up to 20 people contributing x amount of dollars per week until they hit a certain mark. After a long time, each person in the group will be awarded the large sum of money so that they can invest in a bigger ticket item like a stove or a cow that will make their livelihood easier. It was enlightening and refreshing and really put things in perspective for our members.
