The University of Technology Sydney welcomed a new and exciting group last week as Net Impact UTS hosted its inaugural event in the auspicious Dr. Chau Chak Wing Building. Synonymous with Sustainability, the new venue was a perfect fit for a group solely focused on making a difference.

The group were fortunate enough to have Professor Suzanne Benn and Dr Melissa Edwards of UTS, in addition to Julian Crawford, Director of Climate Change and Sustainability for E&Y as speakers. Through a mix of lectures and panel discussions, the evening covered a wide range of topics associated with the event topic “People, Planet, Profits and Professions“.

There was agreement that society has reached a point where sustainability is gaining a foothold in organisational language that will see the skills and experience of sustainability professionals much sought after. On a larger scale the environmental concerns of the group were raised and optimism won out – as just one example the rate of technological innovation, even amongst developing nations would see a rapid shift in energy production.

Finally, the group outlined the short term objectives having just been established – two of which being a membership base of 50 people and to work with the Business School to determine the viability of a “Sustainability” sub major as part of the MBA.

Net Impact UTS would like to take this opportunity again to thank UTS Business School for their support and to all of those who attended and made the inaugural event such a success.
