Communications Associate

Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN)

The Communications Associate will focus on ensuring the smooth execution of communications at the GIIN. This role will be responsible for managing the GIIN’s social media to increase brand awareness and drive audience engagement. This role will also provide general coordination support to the Communications department, particularly the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer.

Essential Duties of the Job:

Social media

  • Develop and implement social media strategies that advance the GIIN’s mission, increase brand awareness and drive action.
  • Create social media toolkits to be distributed externally to strategic partners, GIIN members and other stakeholders.
  • Manage and optimize our social media accounts, ensuring consistent branding, appropriate tone of voice for business and finance audiences, polished content and engaging user experiences.
  • Maintain a social media calendar that tracks proactive, planned content and reactive engagements.
  • Use social media management tools to monitor performance and analytics and generate data-driven insights.
  • Monitor and manage conversations across social media channels, engage with followers and flag any escalations.
  • Identify opportunities for the GIIN to engage in trending conversations in a meaningful way that works towards audience engagement goals.

Outreach materials

  • Provide general support on the production of communication of and marketing materials designed to increase the visibility of impact investing and the GIIN. This can include preparing PowerPoint presentations.

Project and department coordination

  • Track communications inbox and facilitate responses
  • Track deliverables for grants
  • Assisting in upkeep of departmental Sharepoint
  • Support CCMO as needed

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Self starter with strong attention to detail, ability to learn quickly and meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Understanding of how to best communicate with finance and business audiences on social media.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Forward thinker that stays apprised of social media trends, best practices, updates and technologies.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools, PowerPoint, analytics platforms and design programs e.g. Photoshop, Canva, InDesign.
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills, a proactive approach to problem-solving and ability to offer and receive feedback in a productive, professional manner.
  • Creativity in approaching assignments.
  • Interest or experience in social and environmental issues, impact investing, sustainable finance and/or ESG.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with Salesforce or other CRM is a plus.
  • Personable, engaging presence with diplomacy, tact and good humor.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a related field.
  • 1-2 years of experience; an equivalent combination of education and work experience will also be considered.
  • Knowledge of AP style is a plus.

Compensation:

This position will be based in our New York City office with significant remote work flexibility offered through the GIIN’s hybrid in-person/remote work model. Candidates must possess valid authorization to work in the United States that does not require employment visa sponsorship.

The GIIN is committed to pay equity. The salary range for this role is between $48,000-$60,000, with exact salary depending on experience, with an excellent benefits package.

Basing compensation on someone’s willingness and ability to negotiate or on their prior salary leads to wide inequities and bias in how people are paid, particularly for groups experiencing historical oppression. We determine the best possible salary offer based on relevant experience and extent to which candidates demonstrate the competencies for the role during the entire hiring process. The GIIN also uses our annual performance evaluation process at the end of each year to determine raises and promotions.
