Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Controller

Position Summary: 

The ESG Controller will have responsibility over the data validation, analysis and reporting of Hillenbrand’s ESG activities ensuring accuracy and integrity over data and messaging. This role will play central part in coordinating the end-to-end reporting requirements, in partnership with key stakeholder teams including but not limited to Finance, Legal, HR, Operating Companies and coordinate with the Sustainability Team. 

Work You’ll Do: 

• Perform independent review and validation of regulatory and external reporting processes and disclosures to mitigate the risk of reporting errors from a Quality Assurance standpoint. 

• Oversee the execution of QA reviews (data integrity, report production and real time reviews supporting conference presentations, press releases, Capital Stress Testing, and other ad-hoc business requests) in accordance with corporate standards and framework. 

• Enhance processes and controls in partnership with Control Management over data analysis, validation and reporting against existing commitments or ESG initiatives. 

• Work alongside key partners to establish and maintain appropriate policies and procedures to govern Hillenbrand's ESG reporting activities. 

• Alignment of ESG reporting standards/frameworks (ISSB/SASB, TCFD, CDP, SEC, CSRD, CSDDD, and other ESG regulations). 

• Conduct ongoing benchmarking of ESG and sustainability disclosures relative to our peers and industry trends. 

• Develop new processes and controls for data validation, analysis and reporting for any new commitments or activities. 

• Constructively escalate issues and present complex information in a clear and concise manner to Management connecting issues and risks across commitments and driving transparency across activities. 

• Provide program updates to management and key governance forums. 

• Prepare and train teams for ESG reporting obligations. 

Basic Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree (B.S./B.A.) or equivalent from a college or university in Environmental Sustainability, Engineering or Environmental Sciences, Business, Accounting or Finance; and a minimum of 5 - 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with an emphasis in sustainability assurance or a related field. Experience leading project teams to deliver quality data and meet global reporting obligations. 

Preferred Qualifications

CPA and/or MBA preferred. Background in sustainability, and GHG accounting strongly preferred.
