External & Legislative Affairs Graduate Internships – Community Resilience

AT&T Inc.

At AT&T, we create connections that change the world. We’re fueled by a passion to provide innovative solutions and driven to connect the world in meaningful ways. Here’s your opportunity to combine your passion for technology and connecting the world through top-of-the line communications to transform our company and your career.

The Corporate Social Responsibility team has an internship opportunity for a passionate individual to serve as a bridge between AT&T, local community planners and emergency management agencies, to help municipalities become more resilient to climate hazards. As part of this 10-12 week summer internship program, you’ll work to better assess risks and boost climate resilience for our company and the communities we serve.

In 2021, AT&T, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory launched the Climate Risk and Resilience Portal. The portal provides localized future climate risks in an accessible format to state, local, tribal and territorial emergency managers and other community leaders. The climate data, developed by Argonne National Laboratory and made publicly available by AT&T, allows for planners to be proactive and intentional in ensuring infrastructure investments account for changing climate conditions. Equipped with local hazard data, communities can now increase their ability to better anticipate, respond to and recover from disasters.

What you’ll do:

Help communities incorporate climate change into hazard mitigation planning, which is required for FEMA support and recovery funding
Relay feedback on the user experience of the tool and make recommendations on how it could be enhanced to better serve communities
Identify key future climate conditions datapoints most useful for local analysis
Develop a case study to share findings from the community engagement
Develop a training module on how to integrate climate data into hazard mitigation planning and a municipal comprehensive plan
Share insights with AT&T network resiliency team
