OPPORTUNITY HIGHLIGHTS

Salary range is $115,928 - $141,690

Benefits include:

  • Starting vacation accrual of 80 hours of vacation time per year, accrued per pay period. Up to 160 hours based on length of service

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Senior Director of Programs (Senior Director) is a critical member of the Leadership Team. The Senior Director develops the strategy for and provides overall management and direction to programs and program staff, including the following teams: Refugee Programs, Survivors of Human Trafficking Programs, Immigration Legal Services, Health Programs and Economic Prosperity Programs, and Compliance.

The Senior Director serves as a bridge between direct service and administrative functions within the organization and as a liaison for communication.

The Senior Director will work directly with and report to the CEO to reinforce internal program strategy, serve as the lead in building key community relationships, identify opportunities for complementary and expansive models, and serve as a thought leader internally and externally.

This position will provide strategic support to leadership and internal program staff while also sharing the story of the work of Opening Doors externally with communities of community members, programmatic partners, and funders. The strategic nature of this role will involve a high degree of cross-functional collaboration across our entire team and with external partners.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports directly to the CEO, Jessie Mabry. The position supervises a large team with six direct reports and more than 50 indirect reports. The position is part of the organization's leadership team and is responsible for hiring and nurturing a strong team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performance team members, empowering them to elevate their performance.
  • Provide leadership in the development of inter-team communication and cohesiveness, supporting the sustaining of culture after a period of organizational growth.
  • Collaborate with the Leadership Team to ensure the organization achieves strategic goals while minimizing risk.
  • Communicate organizational decisions to program teams and build buy-in across the organization.

Program Design, Delivery, and Evaluation

  • Work with staff to develop systems to ensure consistent, high-quality program management and implementation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to establish program quality standards, define outcome and impact metrics, and facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that Opening Doors’ programs operate in compliance with all funder requirements, and that grant reporting and invoicing are completed correctly and on time.
  • Support the development of program budgets and monitor expenditures, ensuring effective allocation of resources and financial efficiency.
  • In collaboration with Program Managers, lead the design of new programs, ensuring quality implementation of new programs and entry into new communities.
  • Stay informed of trends, changes in related program landscapes, and best practices in Opening Doors’ fields of work, and proactively seek opportunities to incorporate best practices into the organization’s programming.

External Relations and Fundraising

  • Serve as an effective spokesperson on immigrant and refugee issues and the work of Opening Doors to diverse audiences.
  • Cultivate and grow relationships with community partners to ensure collaboration with partners and stay abreast of programmatic developments.
  • Provide technical input and strategic guidance to the Institutional Relationship Manager and other members of the External Affairs team.
  • Additionally, the Director of Programs will represent Opening Doors internally and externally, including on our Leadership Team.

COMPETENCIES

  • 7-10 years’ experience developing and evaluating program models and successfully operationalizing innovative programs.
  • Demonstrated success in the planning and management of multiple mission-driven programs in an organization of similar size and complexity.
  • 7-10 years of progressively challenging management experience, including coaching, managing, and developing talent within an organization and providing constructive and regular feedback to team members. 
  • Extensive experience managing a complex portfolio of projects, requiring a strong skill set in strategic planning, resource allocation, and coordinating cross-functional teams. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, synthesizing, and analyzing program-related data to make informed decisions. 
  • Experience managing program budgets of $500,000 or greater.

Preferred competencies: The requirements listed below are not required but are desired.

  • Experience managing federally-funded program budgets of $750,000 or greater.
  • Deep technical expertise in immigrant, refugee, and/or survivors of human trafficking issue areas.
  • Demonstrated experience with fundraising activities, including grant writing and proposal development and/or donor stewardship.
  • Effective communication skills in one or more of the following languages: Arabic, Chinese, Farsi/Dari, Hmong, Pashto, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Urdu, Ukrainian or Vietnamese.
  • Lived experience, highly valued.
