Key Focus Area: Civic Engagement

“Being surrounded by people who were as passionate as me in this space really reenergized me and gave me hope for the future.” - 2019 Net Impact Conference Attendee.

The problems facing society are daunting. In 2014, Americans were considered "less likely" to ask what they can do for their country, with polling indicating that only 37% believe that keeping up with news and public issues was important. In 1984, this figure was 56%. As problems of division, racial and economic inequity, and environmental injustice have intensified, many people have become skeptical that they can actually make a difference. To create a sustainable and equitable society, we need people to initiate change in their communities and stand up against the status quo.

Civic engagement involves people working collectively to make a difference in their communities (or on a larger scale). By supplying emerging leaders with the skills, knowledge, and values to accomplish these goals, we open the door for our members to realize their potential. To make change happen, we need the next generation to be civically engaged.
